Talk to the Chiltern U3A by Sam Hearn – Seriously Seeking Sybil (8th May)

Sam Hearn, the Treasurer of the Society, will be giving at talk to members of the Chiltern U3A at 10.00 on Thursday the 8th May 2025.

The talk will be held at the Community Centre in Amersham on The Hill. Located on Chiltern Road next to the Chiltern Life Style Centre.

The talk is entitled Seriously Seeking Sybil: Born Sybil Hampden, Sybil Penn was the sister of John Hampden – the great grandfather of John Hampden The Patriot.  Married to a moderately prosperous Bucks farmer, David Penn, Sybil was selected by Thomas Cromwell to the be the dry-nurse of the Henry VIII’s only legitimate male heir, Prince Edward later King Edward VI.  Sybil served four Tudor Monarchs and died in the service of Elizabeth I for whom she was a Lady of the Bed Chamber. Sybil is reputed to be The Grey Lady said to haunt Hampton Court Palace.
