John Hampden

Details of the death of the Patriot’s eldest son John at Chenies are not attested by any primary source of which the Society is aware. It seems probable that there was a skirmish at Chenies on 31st October 1642 between royalists led by Sir Lewis Dyve and party of parliamentarians including John Hampden jnr. However, it has also been suggested that John Hampden jnr died of disease whilst in winter quarters 1642/3.
